Statement with respect to recent arrests

The Royal Falkland Islands Police take the offence of intentionally abusive conduct extremely seriously, irrespective of the nationalities of those involved. Following a complaint made to the police about this type of conduct on 21 March, an investigation was immediately launched and the individuals concerned were taken into custody and questioned within 24 hours.

Following the submission of a file of evidence to the Attorney General’s chambers a decision was taken not to charge and consequently no further action will be taken against those arrested. This event serves to underline the fact that RFIP remains committed to holding to account anyone responsible for causing alarm and distress to members of the local community and will act swiftly, without fear or favour, in situations where this is deemed to have occurred.
