Supt Jeff McMahon joined the RFIP as Detective Inspector running Operation Cinnamon in May 2017. In January 2018 he took over as Chief of Police.
Jeff served 30 years in Greater Manchester Police, retiring in the rank of Detective Chief Inspector in 2010. He became senior investigating officer in Northern Ireland, working with the Historical Enquiries Team, based at Ravernet, Lisburn. In 2013 he joined the Independent Police Complaints Commission and worked on their investigation into the Hillsborough disaster.
Jeff’s aim is to develop RFIP and make it a progressive, forward thinking and effective police service for all members of the community and visitors alike.
The force has grown in numbers under Jeff’s command. The addition of a permanent CID has added a significant amount of expertise and professionalism, allowing the force to produce high quality prosecution files, thereby securing a high number of convictions at court. The force also relies less heavily on contractor staff, having attracted a number of ‘local’ who are keen to be part of RFIP
