FALKLAND ISLANDS GOVERNMENT

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

27 October 2021

FPS Ltd to take over RFIP licencing office services from 8 November 2021

From Monday 1 November 2021, the RFIP licencing office will be closing and the majority of the services that the office currently provides will move across to the post office. This will result in better access to key services for customers from 8 November 2021, with longer opening hours from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and more ways to pay via electronic transactions.

Services that are moving across to the post office are as follows:

  • Vehicle taxation
  • Driving licence applications, renewals and replacements
  • Change of circumstances for driving licences – e.g. new address
  • Registration and change of vehicle ownership
  • Payment for criminal records checks and firearms licences

The police station will still process firearms licences and criminal records checks, although applications and payments for these should be made via the post office from 8 November.

Superintendent Jeff McMahon, Chief of Police, said of the move: “This will be a welcome change for the community, as it will give people more access to vital services, at a time that is convenient to them. We have been working behind the scenes for some time to make this transition as seamless as possible and we are now confident we have the right processes in place to move most operations across to the post office. To help with the transition and testing of systems, there will be no licensing services for the week commencing 1 November, until the post office takes over the delivery of these services from on 8 November. Driving tests have also been suspended for that week. I ask that people please bear with us during the early part of the month while these changes take effect.”

From 8 November 2021, the postal service team will be responsible for the delivery of licensing services, which will be provided from the sales counter in the post office. The counter will be open from 8am until 5pm, from Monday to Friday. Vehicle taxation will also be available online via the post office website www.falklandstamps.com

For any enquiries please call 27159 or email licensing.bureau@police.gov.fk (both the email address and phone line are operated by the post office).
